Pakistan team become no 1

 PAK VS NZ 4TH ODI

Pakistan's victory over New Zealand in the fourth one-day international match on Friday saw Babar Azam's exceptional performance, scoring a century to push Pakistan to the top of the ODI rankings. Azam's 117-ball knock of 107 runs, including ten boundaries, led Pakistan to a total of 334-6 in their 50 overs. In the process, he also became the fastest player to reach 5,000 ODI runs, surpassing former South African batsman Hashim Amla's previous record of 101 innings, achieving the feat in just 97 innings.

Leg-spinner Usama Mir spearheaded Pakistan's bowling attack with career-best figures of 4-43, while Mohammad Wasim (3-40) and Haris Rauf (2-37) also contributed as New Zealand were bowled out for 232 in 43.4 overs. Captain Tom Latham (60), Mark Chapman (46), and Daryl Mitchell (34) offered some resistance, but it was not enough to stop Pakistan from securing a thumping 102-run victory.

With this win, Pakistan now leads the five-match series 4-0 and has claimed the top spot in the ODI rankings for the first time since its official recognition by the International Cricket Council in 2005. Previously, Pakistan's highest ODI ranking was third, which they achieved in January 2018 and again in June 2022.

In addition to Azam's heroics, Shan Masood (44), Agha Salman (58), and Iftikhar Ahmed (28) made valuable contributions to the total. Salman hit two sixes and four fours in his 46-ball knock before being caught and bowled by pacer Matt Henry, who finished with 3-65. Shaheen Shah Afridi's quickfire 23* off seven balls, including three sixes and a four, helped Pakistan amass 94 runs in the final ten overs.

Azam's century was his 18th in ODIs and his 30th overall in international cricket. He is also the 14th Pakistani to score 5,000 or more runs in ODI cricket, with former captain Inzamam-ul-Haq topping the list with 11,701 runs.
